Notifications

Notifications are received in the dust app if the user has accepted to receive push notifications. Notifications require cell network connectivity, so this may not be suitable during the burn if you lack cell coverage, but can be used year round as well.

Notifications are great when:

  • Dates of the burn are announced
  • Tickets go on sale
  • Ticket tiers sell out
  • There are changes to times for a burn
  • Announcing theme camp, art and event deadlines
  • When requesting volunteer signups
  • For post burn surveys

Sending Notifications

You can send a message out to all users by logging into dust as an admin:

  • Click on the Messages button on the home page
  • Enter the message title and description
  • Click Send when you are ready to send to all users

Notifications for a particular regional will be sent to a user only if they have opened your regional in the dust app and accepted the permission for push notifications.

Message History and Management

Messages Tab in Dust App

All sent notifications are automatically displayed in the Messages tab of the dust app, providing users with a persistent record of communications from burn organizers. This ensures that important information remains accessible even if the user doesnt accept push notifications.

Viewing Message History

As an admin, you can view all previously sent messages:

  • Click on the Notify button on the home page
  • Click the History button to view all sent messages

Recalling Messages

If you need to remove a message from the dust app's Messages tab:

  • Navigate to the message history
  • Find the message you want to recall
  • Click the Recall button for that message
  • Confirm the recall action

Important: Recalling a message only removes it from displaying in the Messages tab of the dust app. Push notifications that were already sent to users' devices cannot be recalled.

FAQ

How to unsubscribe from notifications

A user can unsubscribe from notifications in the dust app by pressing "More" and choosing "Unsubscribe".

Subscribe to notifications

When a user opens a regional burn in dust they will be automatically subscribed for notifications unless they have unsubscribed for notifications for that regional. A user can re-subscribe to notifications by clicking the "More" button on the home page and choosing "Subscribe".

What happens when I recall a message?

Recalling a message removes it from the Messages tab in the dust app, but it does not affect push notifications that were already delivered to users' devices. Use this feature to clean up outdated or incorrect information from the persistent message history.
